Before Hiring A Fence Contractor
Due diligence is important in hiring any contractor to perform work on your home or business. You want to ensure that you get value for what you pay for and get quality workmanship. Before you hire a contractor we have some tips to ensure you are getting the best;
Always ask for a written estimate to include all details of the job and a provision for possibly unseen circumstances. You should always consider at least two estimates to get a better feel of the fair market value of the job in your area.
Once you have your estimate, compare several factors:
The size of the posts, runners or pickets on a fence, is it sufficient to withstand mother nature?
Durability of the finished material. Painted fence, whether wood, iron or block, must have a long durability against peeling and wear. Ensure the contractor is using a high quality commercial grade enamel, and that an adequate primer is used before the finish coat.
Hole depth is vital for stability in a fence. Especially in soft ground areas. You should insist that the hole depth for the support fence is a minimum of 16". Higher or heavier fences will require a deeper hole depth up to 24".
Materials in fencing are very important to the durability and longevity of your fence. The better the materials used in constructing your fence, the longer it will last and the less maintenance you will need to perform in the future.
Wrought Iron gates with a mesh is a good example. If the mesh is not galvanized, it will eventually rust . Therefor, ensure the mesh is galvanized and that all materials used for your project have a durable and long-term life.
Finally, before you select your fence contractor, take the time to make a call to the Nevada State Contractors Board to ensure the contractor you have chosen is licensed by the State. Non-licensed fence contractors offer no protection in the event the job is not completed to your satisfaction. If you have a complaint about a fence contractor, you have the opportunity to resolve the issue with the state contractors board if they are licensed. The number for the State Contractors Board is (702) 486-1110.
